Engineer/Senior Engineer, Electrical Semiconductors

Exponent's Electrical & Semiconductors Practice includes a team of electrical engineers performing a wide array of investigations ranging from electric power systems to semiconductor devices. Exponent's electrical engineers have over 150 years combined experience in the areas of accident investigations, component and printed circuit board failure analysis, semiconductor device failure investigations, electrical equipment failures, electric equipment fire investigations, electric motors and generators, power electronic systems for industrial and electric utility applications, power supplies and batteries, among many others.

The Electrical & Semiconductors Practice is currently hiring for an Engineer/Senior Engineer in our China office.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Performing battery factory/manufacturing auditing and engineering analyses focusing on Lithium-ion, Lithium polymer, Nickel cadmium, Nickel metal hydride and Lead acid batteries
  • Auditing other manufacturing facilities where semiconductor and other components used in consumer electronic equipment are made
  • Managing a laboratory for compliance and safety testing of batteries and battery systems as well as other electrical and electronic products

This position will require the following:

  • Ability to critically assess the application of statistical process control (SPC) techniques used by the component and equipment manufacturers
  • Ability to develop safety test protocols and application of existing standards for testing of electrical and electronic products
  • Ability to critically assess test results
  • Adherence to strict quality control policies and standards
  • Ability to speak and write in English and Chinese (Mandarin) languages

Qualifications for this position include:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or related field from a top university in which the English is the primary language
  • Ability to communicate well with external and internal clients
  • Battery design or manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Professional auditor certification (e.g., American Society for Quality or equivalent) or completion of a certified Quality Management System (QMS) Auditor course from a recognized source and 2 years auditing experience; or 10 years of relevant auditing experience is desirable
  • Must possess effective leadership skills with the ability to interact with managers, engineers, attorneys and other administrative staff
  • Relocation to Hangzhou, China

An ideal candidate will have experience in performing engineering investigations and calculations of real-world problems. Must be an excellent problem solver and must have presented in front of business clients, and have published technical papers in journals or engineering publications. Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills are required. Must be able to work well as part of a larger team.
